Plate of corundum, also known as plate alumina (TabularAlumina), a sintered alumina, slightly lower than the melting point of α-Al2O3 (2050 ℃) 1925 ℃ high temperature sintering, the grain reaches the sintering completely recrystallized α-Al2O3, Dimensional plane plate and there are more intergranular intercene circular closed pores microstructure characteristics.

Plate corundum 1934 by ThomasS.Curtis invented the vertical kiln sintering obtained in 1935 after the trial by the commercial production, used as refractory ceramic industry furnace lining materials. 50 years of the 20th century, only as a large refractory aggregate used in refractory industry. During this period, Alcoa (now renamed Anma Aluminum) developed a series of corundum products with low Na2O industrial alumina as raw material.
